Our Story

How We Got Started...

My project started when my son and I were bouncing back and forth the idea of opening a coffee truck. The problem that I kept running into was the coffee. I did not want to use a standard coffee pot with the burner (as most coffee shops do) and I didn't want to use a thermal carafe - the temperature of the coffee gradually drops. I wanted to use a French Press type of brewing because in my opinion, it produces the tastiest coffee and brings out the distinctive flavor of the beans. The problem was, how do we use a French Press and keep the coffee warm so that we are not wasting a bunch. The development process started with: How do I keep it warm without losing or changing the flavor?

On To The Drawing Board...

After lots of drawings and thinking, I came up with steam. I had to test the theory, so I went thrift store shopping. I found a veggie steamer, but now what? I then had a friend make me a stainless steel bracket to fit around the carafe and on top of the veggie steamer base. I made French Press Coffee, poured it into a mason jar, put it in the bracket and monitored the temperature with a meat thermometer. With a little tin foil and adjusting, the temperature maintained for more than 30 minutes.

Taste Test Time...

Next was the taste test. I made a pot of automatic drip coffee and a pot of French Press coffee. The automatic drip sat on the burner and the French press coffee (poured into a mason jar) was placed in the bracket on the steamer. 30 minutes later, I made another pot of French Press. My 'subjects' were given 3 small cups of black coffee; the automatic drip that had been sitting on the burner for 30 minutes, the French Press coffee that had been sitting on the steamer for 30 minutes, and the fresh French Press that was just made. They were immediately able to pick out the automatic drip cup but were unable to tell the difference between the 2 French Press cups. Next, was solving the problem of the coffee continuing to steep as it sat on the steamer base. After lots of thrift store shopping, cutting, screwing, and breaking, we came up with a design for the basket.

What Makes Perfect Cup Coffee Pot Unique?

What the Perfect Cup Coffee Pot does that no others do, is it allows for the removal of the coffee grounds to stop the steeping process and provide easy clean up while keeping the coffee warm without changing the temperature of the coffee therefore making the first cup as fresh as the last cup 60 minutes later.
